Tripathi, Salil. "Frailty in Sarajevo." New Statesman [1996] 11 Aug. 2008: 50+. General OneFile. Web. 19 Oct. 2011.
This article compares two different novels that are based around the same event that put The town of sarajevo in ruins. The first novel that was compared to The cellist of Sarajevo is Picador. Picador concentrates on the overall siege of Sarajevo, while Steven’s novel concentrates on a cellists reaction to a major event. The event that the cellist had reacted to was an event that killed 22 people, waiting in line to buy bread. This novel captures the hope to cling on to a humane past. The problem is that the real life cellist, feels his identity has been stolen, and was not pleased with the way he was depicted. This is a good example of how far we can go when modeling fictional characters off of real life people. If Steven did not write this novel, then the soft noise of the cello would not have been resurrected from a forgotten past.
